Parties and celebrations across the world ring in 2024

Thanks for joining us on our whistle-stop tour of new year celebrations around the world.

We’ve covered the major displays from Auckland in New Zealand, and the 12-minute extravaganza’s in Sydney and Hong Kong.

Hundreds of thousands of people in Paris converged on the Champs Elysees for an Olympic-themed party ahead of the 2024 Games in July. Central London hosted a firework display which the organisers said was the biggest in Europe.

Vast crowds gathered at Copacabana beach in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro to welcome in the new year. It’s one of the world’s biggest celebrations, attracting an estimated two million people.

And in Times Square in New York City, many thousands of revellers witnessed the famous ball drop to mark the moment.

This page was brought to you by Aoife Walsh, Francesca Gillett, Emma Owen, Malu Cursino, James FitzGerald, Sam Horti and myself.

Happy new year one and all!
