Petrobras production hits 3.98 million barrels a day – CEO

Production at Brazil’s state-run Petrobras hit close to four million barrels a day in this quarter, according to its chief executive officer, Jean-Paul Prates.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Prates said Petrobras began producing oil in 1953 with just shy of three thousand barrels a day.

“Today, @petrobras produces more than a thousand times this volume daily, reaching 3.98 million barrels of oil equivalent per day this quarter. And we will continue contributing to the country’s growth.” he wrote.

In filings to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Petrobras said the output is almost 8% higher than the last three quarters.

The hike was attributed to the ramp-up of two offshore platforms in the Santos Basin and two more in the Campos Basin, in addition to fewer platform maintenance stoppages in the period.

Detailed figures will be released on October 26.
