Amsterdam, Feb.27th  – Indonesian Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno has set a goal of 17 million foreign tourist visits to the archipelago by 2024.

He expressed optimism that the goal is achievable with the support of collaboration of various economic players.

He initially expected to see 14.7 million foreign tourist arrivals this year. But after seeing the upward trend in 2023, which exceeded the target by three million, he raised the bar even higher.

“I had set a target of 14.3 million foreign tourist visits [this year]. But last year’s [target for foreign visits] was 8.5 million, and we had an influx of 11.7 million tourists, which is an increase of more than three million.

If we set a target of 14.3 million [this year], it will be the same hike of 3 million, so [the additional] 3 million is beyond the target and [we are optimistic] to reach 17 million,” Sandiaga said in The Weekly Brief with Sandiuno at his office in Jakarta on Monday, Feb. 12.

The former Jakarta deputy governor thus encouraged all policymakers and business players to work collaboratively. “That’s my hope. I think this can be achieved with full collaboration, full cooperation,” he stressed.

Statistics Indonesia (BPS) recorded 11.68 million foreign tourist visits from January to December 2023. “An increase of 98.30 percent compared to the same period in 2022,” BPS Acting Head Amalia A. Widyasanti said in Jakarta.
